What Can You Put in a Dumpster?

Landfills and recycling centers have strict rules about what they can accept for both ecological and safety reasons. Knowing what you can and can't toss is the best way to avoid fees and protect the environment.

Accepted Items

These items are generally safe to toss in any standard construction or household dumpster:

• Household junk (toys, curtains, rugs)
• Furniture (wooden, plastic)
• Construction debris (drywall, wood, siding)
• Flooring (tiles, laminate)
• Packaging materials (cardboard, paper)
• Yard waste (branches, leaves, grass)

Prohibited Items

These items are **NEVER** allowed in a standard dumpster. They pose environmental hazards or safety risks.

• Hazardous waste (pesticides, chemicals)
• Paint / Lacquers / Stains
• Batteries (car or lithium)
• Tires
• Asbestos materials
• Propane tanks / Fuels
• Medical waste

Usually Accepted (Special Handling)

Some items *can* be disposed of, but often incur an extra per-item fee because the hauler has to separate them and pay a recycling surrender fee at the depot.

• Appliances (Fridges, freezers, AC units require freon removal)
• Mattresses & Box Springs
• Electronics (E-waste)
