Nobody likes surprises on their bill. In the world of dumpster rentals, "extra fees" can sometimes creep up if you aren't careful.
The good news? They are almost entirely avoidable if you know the rules.

This is the most common one. Your rental usually includes a certain amount of weight (e.g., 1 ton, 2 tons). If your debris weighs more than that, you pay a prorated rate for the extra weight.
Know what you are putting in! Heavy materials like drywall, shingles, and dirt add up FAST. If you have heavy materials, look for a "clean fill" bin or a larger weight allowance. And keep the rain out!
If you keep the bin longer than the included rental period (usually 7-14 days), you'll be charged a daily fee.
Call for pickup before your rental period ends! Or, when booking, choose a rental duration that gives you plenty of buffer time.
If the driver arrives to drop off or pick up the dumpster and they CAN'T because something is blocking the way (a car, a locked gate, low hanging wires), they will charge you a "trip fee" for their wasted time and fuel.
Clear the way! Ensure the driveway is accessible on the scheduled drop-off and pick-up days.
If you throw banned items (tires, batteries, hazardous waste) into the bin, the drop-off center will charge the hauler a fine, and the hauler will pass that fine on to you (plus admin fees).
Don't put bad stuff in the bin. Read our guide on What Can You Put in a Dumpster? to be sure.
